Processor, Heatsink & Fans
Processors & Heatsink
Up to 2 x 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable or Intel® Xeon® Max Processors with up to 56 cores
Three heat sink types are available for the Dell PowerEdge R760, selected according to system configuration and CPU TDP — any processor exceeding 250W TDP requires liquid cooling.

Liquid Cooling
Any Processors TPD above 250W will need the liquid-cooled system installed.
CPUs 9480, 9470, 8470Q and 6458Q are supported only in liquid cooling configuration.
This Dell Gen16 server can be cooled either by air or by Direct Liquid Cooling. Adding DLC to the CPUs removes the rear VGA port, though replacement options exist at the front or rear — the rear route uses up a PCIe slot in the process.
Fans
A 1U L-type heat sink and GPU shroud are mandatory for all GPU and FPGA cards, and GPU setups only work with the High-Performance Gold fan.
Each system includes 6 hot-swap fans as standard, with fan type shifting based on CPU TDP and configuration — much like heat sink selection. See below for the full range of supported fan types.

Rear Drive Fans
Rear drive installation on the Dell PowerEdge R760 calls for the High-Performance Gold fan, unless CPU TDP already hits 270W or higher.
An extra fan and airflow baffle come with each rear drive cage to keep cooling in check — both are included automatically with rear drive orders.
Rear drives supported on the 12 LFF and the 24 SFF Chassis.
Supported Memory
Support for up to 32 DDR5 RDIMMs at 4400 MT/s (2DPC) — or up to 4800 MT/s with a 16 DDR5 RDIMM cap (1DPC) — gives in-memory workloads a real speed boost.

The fPERC solution stands out among Dell's RAID controller options by providing a base RAID hardware controller that bypasses PCIe slot usage altogether, thanks to a compact, high-density connector to the base planar.
This system works with PERC11 and PERC12 controllers alike, and pairing one fPERC with one APERC card enables dual-controller setups. Consult the manual's cabling section for the supported configuration details.Boot functionality comes through 2x M.2 NVMe drives on the optional BOSS-N1 card, a familiar feature across Dell's lineup — though its exact position depends on which risers or rear drives are installed.

BOSS-N1 Hot-Swap Boot Options
Boot functionality on this server comes via 2x M.2 NVMe drives on the optional BOSS-N1 card, a familiar setup across Dell's lineup — though its exact placement depends on which risers or rear drives are installed.
The BOSS-N1 card carrier can go in without a system shutdown; only the BOSS-N1 controller card module itself requires powering down first.

Networking Adapters Options
NIC support on this Dell Gen16 R760 rack server comes down to choosing between the LOM card or the MIC card, since only one fits at a time — while the OCP 3.0 slot stays open regardless of that choice.
LAN on Motherboard (LOM)
On the Dell R760 the standard LOM is Optional and supports 2x1Gb with BCM5720 LAN controller.
Management Interface card (MIC)
Adding a Dell Data Processing Unit (DPU) card means the MIC must be installed too — and since the MIC takes over the LOM ports, a LOM card can't be used alongside it.

Worth flagging: an x16 card in the OCP 3.0 slot drops to x8 due to this board's OCP limitations. Port capacity is another distinction — the LOM supports two ports max, while the OCP 3.0 slot accommodates cards with up to 4 ports.

Riser Cards
GPU Options
Accelerator support caps at two double-wide 350W units or six single-wide 75W units. GPU installation calls for replacing the default air shroud with the GPU-specific version, plus a filler piece whenever a single-width GPU card or an empty riser slot is in play.
All GPU/FGPA cards require 1U L-type HSK and GPU shroud.
