32G FC SWL SFP+ — multimode short-reach Fibre Channel, not LWL / single-mode
Brocade (Broadcom) 57-1000485-01 / XBR-000412 — 32Gb/s FC SWL SFP+, 850nm MMF, duplex LC
Brocade Part Number: 57-1000485-01
Ordering / Alias: XBR-000412 (1-pack) · XBR-000413 (8-pack)
Description: 32G Fibre Channel short-wavelength (SWL) SFP+ optical transceiver, 850nm multimode, duplex LC, hot-pluggable, with digital diagnostics
This is the short-wavelength multimode 32G FC optic — the one that goes into Brocade Gen 6 / Gen 7 Fibre Channel switch and director SFP+ ports when your plant is OM3 or OM4 multimode. It auto-senses 8 / 16 / 32 Gbps Fibre Channel so mixed-speed fabrics stay sane during upgrades.
Brocade lists the manufacturing part as 57-1000485-01 and the 1-pack order code as XBR-000412. Purchase histories, BOMs and FRU labels may show either number. Same module. The 8-pack order code is XBR-000413 — identical optics, different pack size.
Which One Do I Need?
| Going into |
You need |
| Brocade Gen 6 / Gen 7 FC switch or director SFP+ port (G610, G620, G630, G720, G730, FC32 blade ports, and related) |
32G FC SWL SFP+ — this product (57-1000485-01 / XBR-000412) |
| Same platforms, but the run is single-mode and measured in kilometers |
32G FC LWL (e.g. 57-1000332-01 / XBR-000238 family, ~10 km) — not this module
|
| 16G-only FC fabric with no 32G ports |
A 16G SWL SFP+ — not this module (this optic will not make a 16G port into 32G) |
| Ethernet / InfiniBand / RoCE switch SFP+ |
An Ethernet or IB optic — not this module (Fibre Channel coding and protocol) |
| You need eight identical units for a blade or dense switch fill |
XBR-000413 8-pack of the same optic, or eight of this 1-pack SKU |
SWL vs LWL is the first fork. SWL is 850nm multimode for short in-row and adjacent-row SAN links. LWL is 1310nm single-mode for longer campus or building runs. Ordering by “32G Brocade SFP+” alone is how the wrong wavelength shows up on the dock.
A 16G-only port does not become 32G because you insert this module. The host port sets the ceiling; this optic negotiates down to 8/16G when the link partner requires it.

Note on Reach: 70m / 100m / “300m” Numbers
Brocade and module datasheets commonly quote ~70m on OM3 and ~100m on OM4/OM5 at 32G. Some reseller sheets also print a looser “up to 300m” multimode figure that applies at lower rates or under ideal lab conditions — not what you should design a 32G SAN ISL against. Design to the OM3/OM4 32G figures for fabric planning. Longer runs at 32G usually mean LWL on single-mode, not stretching SWL past budget.
At 16G and 8G the same optic reaches farther on the same fiber (roughly OM3 ≈100m / OM4 ≈125m at 16G; OM3 ≈150m / OM4 ≈190m at 8G on typical tables). Usable distance still depends on connector count and patch-panel loss. Planning a long ISL? Talk to us first.
Good to Know
-
This is Fibre Channel, not Ethernet. A “32G SFP+” Ethernet or InfiniBand optic will not speak FC to a Brocade SAN port — and this module will not bring up an Ethernet link.
-
LWL lookalikes share the same speed class. 57-1000332-01 / XBR-000238 (and later LWL PIDs) are 32G long-wavelength on single-mode. Same speed, wrong fiber plant.
-
Older 32G SWL PIDs exist. 57-1000333-01 / XBR-000212 is an earlier 32G SWL 1-pack. Do not assume every “32G SWL” FRU is interchangeable without checking the Brocade support matrix for your FOS and platform.
-
Secure / SW-SEC variants appear in some Brocade docs under related PIDs. If your fabric policy requires secure optics, say so before you order — we will confirm what you actually need rather than ship the wrong FRU.
- Inserting this into a non-Brocade Ethernet switch “because it is SFP+” is a common wrong buy. Coding and protocol matter.
- Your patch cords must be multimode duplex LC. Single-mode LC jumpers will light poorly or not at all on SWL optics.
Quick Checklist — Is This the Right Module?
You are filling a Brocade / Broadcom Fibre Channel SFP+ port on a Gen 6 or Gen 7 platform. Your fiber is OM3 or OM4 multimode with duplex LC. Your runs are inside the ~70–100m 32G SWL envelope (or you are fine negotiating down to 16G/8G on longer MMF). You want the 1-pack FRU known as 57-1000485-01 / XBR-000412.
